Which program should I use?
If you have an existing hybridoma and need antibody produced from it, you should use ascites production or
In-vitro antibody production. For development of new antibodies, use either Polyclonal antibody production or
Monoclonal antibody production. The table below gives recommendations for each program. These are general
guidelines and the “best” program will depend on your unique antigen, application, and goals.
Application Monoclonal production Polyclonal production
____________________________________________________________________________
ELISA ++ + (paired with McAb)
Flow Cytometry ++ -
Western Blot +/- (Ab dependent) ++
Immunoprecipitation ++ (better specificity) ++
Immunohistochemistry + ++ (if Ag-affinity purif.)
Neutralization ++ ++
In Vivo Studies ++ +/-

(++) Best to use; (+) usually OK; (+/-) may work; (-) not recommended)
In addition, Monoclonal Antibody production is recommended when long-term stability,
reliability, and use of an antibody are required.
